“Pinophilia “ hosted by Mark Savage MW

Mark Savage is a wine merchant and MW friend of Tim Hart’s who has long been fascinated by Pinot. He describes the theme of this tasting in the following terms:
A presentation of wines from the various mutations of the noble, yet occasionally dysfunctional  and capriciously unpredictable pinot grape family, including pinot blanc, pinot gris, pinot meunier and pinot noir itself, exploring the peculiar facets of these challenging grapes by tasting examples from a wide variety of places such as Oregon USA, Slovenia, Austria, South Africa, Alsace and of course its Burgundian homeland.  As recently as 40 years ago, the received professional opinion was that the
only corner of the planet that could make really successful wine from pinot noir was the Cote d’Or in Burgundy. This tasting will attempt to explore the progress that has been made with this grape over the past forty years.”
