I wouldn’t profess to be an aficionado when it comes to wine, but I do have a keen interest and like to think I can pick out a good bottle. I can usually make an educated guess about what it is that I’m drinking – although I’m probably better at doing that with red wine rather than white. So there’s certainly room for improvement! I’m always keen to learn more and Tim Hart and Dominique make it very interesting. They introduce aspects that I would never usually consider – such as the height of the land the vines are grown on and the type of soil.

Dinner is served after the tasting, which makes for lively and interesting conversation as everyone discusses their preferred wines and shares opinions. More wine is also served and it goes without saying that the food is delicious, which for me is just the icing on the cake.

Many of the great Chateaux of Bordeaux have introduced second labels which fulfil a variety of needs.

Sometimes they enjoy the flexibility of selling, under a junior label, wines emanating from younger vines or less favoured sectors in the main vineyard. Sometimes they may wish to add lustre to wines made in the great winery but originating from a different vineyard by using a name with echoes of the original.

Whatever the purpose, most of these wines are designed to be drunk fairly young and at their best can be most attractive and faithful ambassadors of the house style. “Delightful evening”

I dined with three friends on Sunday night at the Campbell Bass evening. The food was delicious, great wine, service was attentive but not irritating. Campbell interacted with the diners and walked around singing Sinatra, Buble and other classics. He had a great voice and everyone joined in singing certain songs.

The restaurant was full and the atmosphere was lovely as some people got up and danced between courses. We ordered from both the set menu and a la carte, I am a vegetarian and had plenty of choice, none of which contained goats cheese, which i hate!

I thought the set menu at £30 a head was fantastic value, I shared wine with a friend and service charge was added so I spent £45. We all had a great evening and I would definitely return and recommend it to others. I also recently had afternoon tea at Harts which was equally excellent.
